Wildlife
Beaver
Castor canadensis
Since Los Luceros Historic Site is located on the Rio Grande, we have all kinds of animals who live in the water, including beavers. Watch as this beaver drags a tree limb away to add to its lodge. Did you know beaver teeth never stop growing? Beavers can remain underwater for 15 minutes, and they have transparent eyelids that allow them to see underwater. Beavers are an important part of our thriving ecosystem.
