Wildlife
Beaver
Castor canadensis
Since Los Luceros Historic Site is located on the Rio Grande, we have all kinds of animals who live in the water including beavers!
Watch as this beaver drags this tree limb away to add to its lodge. Did you know beaver teeth never stop growing and they can remain underwater for 15 minutes? They also have transparent eyelids that allow them to see underwater! Beavers are an important part of our thriving ecosystem!
Look at those great teeth!
