Fort Stanton Park Day Volunteering
At Fort Stanton Historic Site
4/25/26, Saturday
10:00am - 2:00pm
Volunteers are needed to help care for the 1855 cemetery at Fort Stanton in honor of the American Battlefield Trust’s annual Park Day. Each year, the American Battlefield Trust hosts Park Day, when sites across the US unite on the same day to undertake projects that preserve historic sites. As part of this initiative, Fort Stanton has organized outdoor clean-up and trail maintenance around the historic cemetery. Volunteers should wear appropriate clothing, shoes, and a hat, and bring plenty of drinking water to stay hydrated.
Just a short hike from Fort Stanton, the cemetery was the original site of the Fort. Military graves were relocated to Santa Fe Veterans Cemetery in 1896 when the military closed Fort Stanton, but a few graves still remain.
