Campfire Kitchen: Horno Thanksgiving
At Fort Selden Historic Site
11/23/24, Saturday
10:00am - 11:00am
Let’s fire up the horno! Come join us as we demonstrate how to fire and cook in an adobe horno (outdoor adobe oven), and cook a meal in honor of Thanksgiving at the last Campfire Kitchen program of the year.
Rangers at the site will be cooking and serving chicken and dumplings, fresh baked bread, cowboy coffee, and an apple crisp just as the people of southern New Mexico, as well as the soldiers once stationed at Fort Selden, have been doing for hundreds of years. People of all ages are invited to come out and bake/break bread in honor of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. We’ll also serve hot chocolate. Note: Any active flames or cooking over a live fire is dependent on state and local fire restrictions as well as expected weather conditions and current wind speeds.
Demonstration and ranger interaction is included as part of general admission of $5/adult and free for children 16 years and younger. Call 575-526-8911 for more information.
