The buildings indicate the special mission of the fort. An Indian Hospital and an Indian Subsistence Building and other such facilities weren't the type of buildings found at a "normal" military post. The army has several contact points with the Navajo and Mescalero Apache especially through the issue of rations or work on the government farm. Not all contacts were negative or hostile.
