5. LOS CAMPOS
The Fields

The fields at Los Luceros have seen a multitude of uses. They have been and still are used for farming, and the site is now sometimes used for events. However, in the 19th century, the fields of Los Luceros were used as a camp for US Military soldiers on their way to the Siege of Taos in 1847.

The fields have grown crops like corn, squash, and alfalfa. They have also been used to grow fruits like cherries, apples, and apricots.

Did you know?

Elias Clark, husband of Maria Marta Lucero, was celebrated for his decision to grow alfalfa in New Mexico in the late 19th century. It had not been done in the area before then. The site still grows alfalfa to this day to feed the sheep, goats, and donkeys.
