This private chapel was built in its current form in 1886 after a particularly terrible flood. The chapel was dedicated to the Holy Family by the Ortiz family, which is seen in the theme of the Alter inside the church. In 1891 the chapel was deeded to the Archdiocese of Santa Fe who still owns it and about 2 acres of the land it sits on.
This is an active chapel and a cemetery sits to the north side of the building. Some relatives of the residents of the cemetery still come to the property to visit their deceased loved ones so please be respectful of other visitors, the chapel, and graveyard as sacred spaces. People are allowed to pray and stay as long as they would like during our operational hours. Pictures are allowed of the chapel, but please be respectful of the space you are in.
Did you know?
Although this chapel was built as a private space it was used by more than the family who owned the land. The entire community of Los Luceros, which once supported nearly 300 people, attended this chapel for regular services, weddings, funerals, baptisms, and communion.
