Art with Us: Celebrating the Craft of Papier-Mache
At Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site
2/21/26, Saturday
12:00pm - 1:30pm
Come visit Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site to learn about techniques for creating art with the popular material made of paper and glue known as papier-mâché. Ranger Daniel will discuss the work of artists in the Southwest and Latin America who use papier-mâché to produce elaborate sculptures, expressive masks, and fantastical creatures known as alebrijes. You will see stunning examples of folk art in the site’s collection while learning about how papier-mâché became a part of regional traditions and cultural celebrations. Participants will receive a kit with instructions and supplies for creating their own original piece of art. $15 for adults, $5 for children 16 and younger.
