STEAM Sundays: The Art of Fresco
At Los Luceros Historic Site
7/13/25, Sunday
1:30pm - 3:00pm
Children ages 10 and older are invited for a new STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) Sunday program at Los Luceros Historic Site. This first program is about fresco painting. Students will learn what painting ’a la fresco’ is all about! Painting on wet plaster has been a tried-and-true technique for hundreds of years. The best climates to paint this way are generally dry, like New Mexico. Olive Rush, an artist who visited Mary Wheelwright at Los Luceros in the 1930s and 1940s, painted frescos in the Hacienda on two of the fireplaces. We will not be able to see these paintings in person but students who join this class are welcome to replicate her designs.
For ages 10 and older. Pre-registration is not required. Parents/Guardians are welcome to stay for the class. Site visitation is $7 per adult and free to children 16 and younger.
