Acrylic Painting Demonstration with Kandis Quam (Zuni Pueblo)
At Coronado Historic Site
7/26/25, Saturday
10:00am - 4:00pm
Join us at Coronado Historic Site for our artist demonstration program from May through October on the last Saturday of the month. New Mexico is home to 19 federally recognized Pueblos and Arizona is home to 12 Hopi villages. The artist demonstration program will highlight six artists from these groups. Visitors can meet Indigenous artists as they practice their style of traditional and contemporary arts. This month, watch Kandis Quam (Zuni Pueblo) create acrylic on canvas paintings.
Art has always been a part of Quam’s life, from the moment she was born. She comes from a family of well-known native artists and as a result of growing in an artistic family, she got to watch and learn from her parents, Jayne and Lynn Quam, and learned how to navigate the art show world. Even at a young age she knew her destiny was to continue the Quam family legacy of art. Her main subject matter of choice is imagery with a heavy Zuni influence, which she believes instills a sense of cultural preservation in this modern age for the younger generation. She hopes to further enforce the importance of oral tradition, and the passing on of knowledge, with the stories and teachings of how these sacred beings and entities were held in high regard by ancestors. Through Quam’s use of visual media, she seeks to bridge the past with the present and create change through beauty.
Included with admission of $7 for adults and free to children 16 and younger, people with Native/Tribal affiliations, disabled veterans, foster families, and MNMF and FCJHS members.
