Los Luceros Historic Site (LLHS) offers extended hours from sunrise to sunset on the first Sunday of each month. During this time, entrance into LLHS is FREE for New Mexico residents with ID. Enjoy bird watching, listen to a children’s story led by a ranger, and participate in hands-on activities.

Take a guided bird walk with staff from the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) at 7 a.m. Sign-up ahead of time online at https://peecnature.org/events/.

Join Interpretive Ranger Kara on a guided ranger tour through the historic district from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. She will discuss the history of the site, its buildings, and the fantastic characters of its past.

At 1 p.m. Interpretive Ranger Kara will offer Read with a Ranger story time, reading the Caldecott Medal winner We Are Water Protectors by Carole Lindstrom. This book celebrates those who are willing to protect the Earth’s natural resources and those who are unable to protect themselves. Kara will lead a children’s craft activity after the story and suggests visitors check out the river and bosque after story time.

From 3 - 4 p.m., New Mexico Arts Artist-in-Residence Chris E. Vargas will present research and artwork developed during his time in his residency at Los Luceros. His creative research centers on several Los Luceros icons like Maria Chabot, Mary Cabot Wheelwright and her collaboration with two-spirit Diné weaver Hastiin Klah, whose preservation of Indigenous artworks laid the foundation for the Wheelwright Museum. 

Visitors are also free to explore the historic buildings, nature trails, and farm animals. Los Luceros offers a unique opportunity for people to explore and enjoy the site from dawn until dusk on the first Sunday of each month.

Entrance is FREE for New Mexico residents with ID. Regular admission for non-residents is $7/adult and free to children 16 and younger.
