Friends of Coronado and Jemez Historic Sites
The Friends of Coronado & Jemez Historic Sites present a lecture by Nancy Hendricks, Superintendent of Petroglyph National Monument entitled, "A Place Connected: Protecting Petroglyph National Monument in the Midst of Rapid Change."
Petroglyph National Monument spans more than 7,200 acres. Its 20,000+ petroglyphs and 350 archaeological sites hold profound spiritual significance for Pueblo residents and descendants of Spanish settlers alike. Hendricks will discuss the cultural connections of the West Mesa and beyond that make this monument unique. She will also share the challenges of managing the site in a rapidly expanding urban environment where more than 350,000 visitors a year visit, and staff contend with illegal activities such as graffiti.
Nancy Hendricks, with a keen interest in the environment since childhood, holds a Bachelor of Science in Parks and Recreation Resource Management from Slippery Rock University and has completed post-graduate work at Northern Arizona University. Prior to 2019 when she began managing Petroglyph National Monument, she worked as a park ranger with the US Army Corps of Engineers in Pittsburg. That was followed by the Lake Mead Resource Program. She has also worked at Olympic, Denali, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon National Parks as a park environmental protection specialist.
The lecture is free and takes place at Martha Liebert Public Library, Bernalillo on Caliche St Behind the Town Hall at 829 Camino del Pueblo.
