Dawn ’Til Dusk

At Los Luceros Historic Site
9/1/24, Sunday
6:45am - 7:30pm

Los Luceros Historic Site

Los Luceros Historic Site (LLHS) offers extended hours from sunrise to sunset on the first Sunday of each month, including guided bird walks by the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) at 7 a.m.

We’ll have a special performance at 1 p.m. by Rosalia Pacheco who presents La Llorona, the Wailing Woman. This famous ghost from Spanish folklore is known throughout the world for her eerie, spine chilling cries as she searches for her lost drowned loved ones, her darling children. Early Spanish settlers knew of her. Her folk story was ancient in European mythology, but in New Mexico it is said she lived next door, or that an ancestor actually knew her. Audience members are invited to volunteer to help bring the story to life. The audience also has the opportunity to ask La Llorona questions and interact with her during the drama. At the end of the performance, she will break character and address the audience as herself to answer questions.

Entrance into LLHS is FREE for New Mexico residents with ID during Dawn ‘Til Dusk. In addition to the bird walks, hands-on activities are offered each month, and visitors are free to explore the grounds and visit the farm animals.
