Mary and Maria:

The Story of Objects

In this lesson we discuss how objects, photographs, architecture, and letters all make up what is referred to as material culture. Material culture can illuminate aspects of peoples lives which help archaeologists and historians learn about the past. By exploring the rooms of Maria Chabot and Mary Cabot Wheelright through a 360 tour, students investigate who these women were and how they fit into the history of New Mexico. Students study the meaning behind objects and use primary sources as a means of examining history.
