School Tours of Fort Selden Historic Site

•Enjoy a guided tour of the site.

•Take your students on a self-guided walking tour.

•Explore the artifacts and information in the Visitor Center.

•Request a special demonstration or hands-on activities.

•Reserve a special tour coordinated with Leasburg State Park.

•Reserve the outdoor pavilion for lunch or other activities.

Tour Planning:

•School tours are free.

•Book your tour by contacting Instructional Coordinator Alexandra McKinney at alexandra.mckinney@dca.nm.gov or call 575-740-9967.

•Please submit a request at least three weeks prior to the date of your planned visit.

•Please bring one chaperone for every ten students.

•Students should wear closed-toe shoes and bring water, sunscreen, and hats.

•A staff member or tour guide will meet your bus in the parking lot and guide your group into the site. Please call the front desk at 575-526-8911 if your group is running late.

•Please silence your cellphones while on the tour, but feel free to take photographs.

Safety Considerations:

•Students and guests should stay on the trails.

•Students should stay with chaperones during their visit.

•Prepare for seasonal weather changes.

•Do not allow students to climb on trees, buildings, rocks, or historic structures.

•Do not allow students to disturb wildlife.

•Visitors should not pick anything up from the ground.

•Report injuries to a staff member immediately.
